Jesus Heals a Paralytic

Mark 2:12

Samir Afghan

After returning to Capernaum, news quickly spread that Jesus was at home, drawing an immense crowd that filled the house to its capacity, leaving no space even near the entrance. Amidst this, Jesus was preaching to the gathered people. In an extraordinary display of faith and determination, four men arrived, carrying a paralytic friend. Unable to penetrate the crowd to get close to Jesus due to the sheer number of people, they devised a bold plan. They climbed onto the roof, removed part of it to create an opening, and carefully lowered their friend down right in front of Jesus.Seeing their faith, Jesus addressed the paralytic directly, offering not just physical healing but spiritual absolution, saying, "Son, your sins are forgiven." This statement caused immediate controversy among the scribes present, who internally accused Jesus of blasphemy, questioning His authority to forgive sins, a prerogative they believed belonged to God alone.Perceiving their skepticism, Jesus challenged them, asking which was easier: to forgive sins or to heal the man physically. To demonstrate His divine authority to do both, He commanded the paralytic to rise, take up his bed, and walk home. The man did just that, standing up in front of the astonished crowd, picking up his bed, and walking out, fully healed. This miraculous healing and the forgiveness of sins left everyone present amazed and fearful, leading them to glorify God and exclaim that they had never witnessed anything like this event.
